Mr. Alexander Rinnooy Kan is appointed as Chairman of the International Advisory Board Rotterdam. He is succeeding former Prime Minister Ruud Lubbers, who chaired the IAB for three years.
Alexander Rinnooy Kan is widely regarded as a major authority in the Netherlands. With his background as (a.o.) President of the Federation of Dutch Industries VNO-NCW, Member of the Executive Board of ING Group and since 2006 and Chairman of the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands (SER). The IAB -again- has a very experienced chairman. Mr. Rinnooy Kan was already member of the Advisory Board.
During the Conference on 4, 5, and 6 November Mr. Rinnooy kan will not be able to chair this year's Conference, because he has to undergo surgery just a couple of weeks before the IAB and will still be recovering. He remains Chairman of the IAB. Mr. Rinnooy Kan was, however, very much involved in the preparations for this year’s Conference.
Rt. Hon. Dame Jenny Shipley will be chairing the 2009 Conference. Dame Shipley, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, attended three previous IAB meetings and chaired the ‘Female IAB’ in 2008. She has become the best international Rotterdam ambassador we could ever wish for.
